I drink a lot of coffee for a range of reasons – from creating Instagram content to boosting my metabolism pre-workout – so my coffee intake averages 2-3 shots of espresso per day. While that should probably be addressed, it does contribute to my fairly useful knowledge of coffee shops around the City of Light. And so, here are my Top 5 Coffee Shops in Paris:

BEST FOR SPENDING THE WHOLE DAY: DOSE 

Most specialty coffee shops around Paris close by 6 pm, but not DOSE. In fact, after 6:30 pm, it turns into a buzzing neighborhood spot for apéro evenings, serving up glasses of spritz and wine alongside vegan rilettes. Back to the coffee though – DOSE roasts their own beans and serves up a range of homemade food that caters to most dietary requirements (gluten-free, vegan etc.) With a solid wifi on weekdays, it’s a popular choice for freelancers and students alike. And it almost goes without saying – on weekends DOSE transforms into a popular brunch spot.

BEST FOR FEELING AT HOME: LA COMPAGNIE DU CAFÉ

Wooden tables, classic French rattan bistro chairs and the warmest hospitality from the friendliest baristas. Oh, and a good cup of coffee. There’s almost no better combination to make you feel at home outside of home. With an impressive coffee roaster sitting at the back of the café, La Compagnie du Café takes its customers around the world with coffee blends from Indonesia to Cameroon. It’s no wonder the spot has gathered a huge following of regulars constantly returning to try new beans.

BEST FOR WATCHING THE WORLD GO BY: KB CAFÉ SHOP

Conveniently located on a street corner in South Pigalle, there’s almost no better place to sit with a good cup of coffee and people-watch. One of the pioneers of specialty coffee in Paris, KB has been serving up their own roasted coffees alongside a range of mouth-watering cakes since 2010. To prove their success, they’ve recently opened up a second location Back in Black in the 11th arrondissement, which as of now, is one of the few places that offer cascara, a tea derived from coffee cherries!

BEST FOR GOOD BARISTA BANTER: HONOR

Tucked into a courtyard in the middle of the luxury shopping district Faubourg Saint-Honoré is the beautiful, outdoor Australian specialty coffee shop Honor. I’ve stopped in a few times by now, and without fail, the barista is engaged in deep conversation with the coffee shop’s regulars. By the end of my most recent trip, I was also caught up in a lovely discussion with Filip about good specialty coffee shops in the 11th arrondissement. If you’re hungry, or even if you’re not, their sourdough crumpets are also super popular and yummy, so make sure to give them a try.

BEST FOR DOING A+ WORK: NOMADE CAFÉ

Whenever I started panicking over that two-thousand-word essay due the next day, or began stressing over a take-home exam, I would pack up my laptop and set up camp at Nomade Café. With a strong wifi, natural light pouring in from all corners and most importantly, smooth coffee blends from Ethiopia to Rwanda, Nomade is the place to go for that much-needed productivity boost. They also house a small tattoo parlor inside if you suddenly feel the urge to get inked!
