Imperial College Business School Exchange Students
Prior to arriving at HEC Paris for the 2-week summer school programme, I thought I knew everything I needed to know, but nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to embark on. HEC Paris Summer School programme is a once in a life time experience. I made friends from all over the world, had the opportunity to enjoy the city of Paris and Versailles, as well as fit a whole lot of learning into two weeks.
The First Day
Arriving on the first day was surreal, the campus was beautiful, and I quickly felt at home. We received a warm welcome from the Summer Associate Team who were present to help us at all times throughout our time at HEC. As we arrived, we were given goodie bags with details of the course content and a guide for navigating the campus. Firstly, we were given access to our rooms which was an EnSite with a fully equipped kitchenette and a balcony with a stunning view of the campus. Everything moves very quickly during the Summer School program, so orientation began shortly after moving in. We had lunch at the HEC cafeteria and afterwards were introduced to the courses we were about to undertake as well as the History of HEC and the full range of HEC programs available.
Luxury Management at HEC Paris
I am currently completing an MSc. Management program at Imperial College Business School and the Luxury Management course at HEC was a perfect complement to my current studies.
The Luxury Management Summer School program was taught by Anne Michaut as well as amazing guest speakers from leading luxury companies and from different sectors of the luxury Industry. The course covered a range of topics and as someone with prior luxury experience, it was still very engaging and insightful. I particularly loved the Digital Transformation in Luxury lecture and the field study exercise where we visited luxury stores in Paris.
Weekend & Extracurricular activities
The 2 weeks were very intensive so there was not a lot of time during the week to visit Paris, however during the weekend, a bus was organised to and from Paris on Saturday and Sunday. I spent my Saturday in Paris, sightseeing and enjoying macarons at Parisienne cafes. During the week, I also visited the Palace of Versailles in Versailles and most evenings during the week were spent soaking up some sun by the lake with my fellow course mates.
There were many optional activities during the week to enhance our experience such as a crêpe study break, Wine tasting seminar and Lunch and Learn in French. For any sports fans, Yoga, cross fit and football was also on offer. Speaking of sports, the world Cup was also going on during my time at HEC and there is a World Cup soccer viewing in the Fan Zone next to Le Wunder Bar.
Overall, the experience was like nothing I have every experienced before. I have left HEC with a greater understanding of the Luxury Industry thanks to Anne Michaut and the amazing guest lecturers and I have made friends from all over the world, each with a unique backgrounds and experiences.
