Brace yourselves, spring is coming!
With warmer temperatures and sunny days, the campus is a great place to chill and go on great walks. So here is my selection of 5 original activities you may want to take part in with your friends on campus and nearby! Some are mainstream / very famous, but it doesn’t mean they are overrated; plus, I’m sure you’ve not tested them all, so feel free to discover these awesome places on the weekends or if you don’t have class one day!
- Go for a picnic at the lake
First and foremost, what about discovering your campus and some of its most beautiful places? I guess you have already been down to the lake, but spring is definitely the right time to go back to this place. You may notice the lovely wooden pier, but also Le Château of the Fondation HEC, a French-style manor. Don’t forget your picnic blanket, some cherry tomatoes and hummus, and you’ll spend quality time with your friends.
- Have a look at the wooden artworks of the Espace d’Art contemporain
You’ve already seen them for sure – those wooden artworks you can come across on campus. The coolest is probably the famous “wooden hut” (cabane), built by different artists, between Building D and the Kfet: if not open, you can ask for the keys at the Espace d’Art Contemporain (Building C, Lobby) and you’ll be able to enter the cabane with your friends. It’s a very funny spot as many people going to the Restaurant or to their room see you in this hut, come and talk to you for a while. Also, there are other nice wooden artworks close to the Batzet.
Besides, just before arriving to the Lake, there is a mysterious cave you can visit, with a metallic artwork in it, also made possible by the Espace d’Art Contemporain.
- Visit the Musée de la Toile de Jouy
If you are a museum-enthusiast and want to visit an interesting place close to campus, the Musee de la Toile de Jouy is made for you, for three reasons. First, it’s located in a wonderful castle, the Eglantine Castle, with a lovely garden, and it’s worth seeing that. Then, you’ll discover the history of the Oberkampf Manufactory, which was famous for its printed canvases in the late 18th century, and which experienced a marked upsurge in popularity around the year 2000. And this is a very cheap activity (less than 5 euros)!
- Visit the incredible Palace of Versailles
Need I explain why you should? Its extensive gardens, its fountains, the hall of mirrors… It’s also super close to the HEC campus (25 minutes), so you should not hesitate to plan this visit! Before visiting you may have a look at this article on this blog about the Palace of Versailles.
- Let’s go green at the Ferme de Viltain!
You dream of being a farmer just for a day, you want to pick fruit, vegetables and flowers after your business class? You would love to drink a bio apple juice, made by local farmers? Then you must go to the Ferme de Viltain! That’s a 10-minute walk from campus and it’s the perfect place to reconnect with nature.
I hope you’ll appreciate these spots and suggestions!
