Nine students from HEC Paris took over the torch from the former founders, to carry forward the student club “Chinese Business Society” created in 2015 at HEC Paris. The Chinese Business Day is the signature event of HEC Paris Chinese Business Society (CBS), aiming at bridging the gap and establishing a platform of exchange between companies and HEC Paris graduate students interested in China.
After active contacts with our members, multiple businesses showed their interest in our concept as well as our event. Finally, five big companies, including Etam Group, URGO, Dentons, Michelin, SR2C Consulting & Management and StartupBRICS, signed up to participate in this second edition of our activity, on March 23rd 2017. The sectors of the invited businesses are diversified so that to match the different interests of HEC students, ranging from Consulting, Industries, to Retailing. And some companies have already reserved their place for taking part in the next year’s event.
Still, you might be wrong to take Chinese Business Day just as one formal conference organized by companies, or as one more Career Fair. In fact, its goal is to bring together businesses and students around China-related business cases and topics, while also offering various occasions to exchange. We had the chance to take part in many exciting activities on that big day.
Here is a brief recap of the Chinese Business Day 2017.
After the warm opening speeches by François Collin, the Associate Dean for International Affairs and Raphaëlle Gautier, the Executive Director for Corporate Partnership & Careers, students moved to conduct case studies with companies that they pre-registered for. Insightful and challenging topics such as “Development strategy of Michelin”, “Market entry plan in China of Etam Group”, “Sino-French consulting projects” shared by SR2C Consulting & Management moved the event into high gear.
Also, this year the Chinese Business Society had the honor to welcome David Baverez (HEC Alumnus, H88) as our guest speaker for the event. With five years of experience in Hong-Kong as a private investor, he shared with us valuable insights on the Chinese financial market. March 23 (day of the Chinese Business Day) was also the day his new book “Paris-Pékin Express” was being launched. On this very special day, David even kindly brought two signed books as a gift for two lucky participants in our event.
While feeding with much food for thought, you probably also need food for your stomach. After the closing speech, a fancy cocktail party was delicately prepared and ready for the participants. We believe that the Chinese Business Day 2017 will remain a particularly cherished memory for our participants.
If this successful edition has inspired you to join the Chinese Business Society, you are very welcome to drop a message or come and chat with us. See you soon!
