There are 7 days in an HEC student’s week and those are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, POW, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Every Thursday brings a smile on people’s face because it’s POW day. Even the longest elective during that day seems like 5 seconds when you think of how many beers or glasses of wine you’ll need in order to break your own record. But the POW in itself is just the climax of the night because the pre-POW is where people get into the mood for partying. Be it Paulino’s, L1 or the APs, the pre-Pow brings together those who want to play beer-pong, those who want to listen to Spanish music or those who want to chill with their friends and drink some of their Simply supplies.
Getting dressed for the night can often be a sophisticated art. It can get extremely hard to choose some shoes that you’ll have to say goodbye to the next morning. Also, putting on your fanciest clothes to drag attention is not the best idea because the beer shower will definitely make you look unattractive… and a bit smelly. But hey, you won’t be the only one, which always helps when bonding with others. Once the POW outfit is set, you are ready to go. You only need to follow the French music beats that will bring you to the long queue, which makes you imagine you reached the most popular club in Paris.
Soon enough you will meet the two or three red men in front of the doors and if you’re on time and with the right stamp you’ll get in, if not your only alternative remains jumping over the fence. According to HEC records, this attempt is not very successful. Nevertheless, once you are in, you might find little surprises such as hamburgers, sweets or KFC if the POW turns out to be the POM. Also, since you are a business student now your mentality changes: you start wondering how many beers you need in order to break even and thus, make your entrance worth. Of course, your break even will always be sufficient to have a good time, especially when dancing. It doesn’t matter if you are a good or a bad dancer because the POW ‘s dance floor is the place to show your skills. Often you have so much fun that you forget it’s passed 1 am and you have a class at 8am in the morning. You do not care anymore because you want to stay there for the last song- the HEC song. When the song starts playing everyone is thrilled and starts jumping around in a circle. Looking from outside, one might say this is a ritual.
Time flies fast and you realize it’s the end of the POW this week. You had a lot of fun with your friends and on the way back to your room you already plan your next POW… But wait… today’s again Thursday. Indeed times flies fast so have fun at the POW tonight!
