2015 Convergences World Forum

The 8th Convergences World Forum edition will gather international professionals for 3 days of exchange and thought on the topic “Zero exclusion, zero carbon, zero poverty”, broken down into 3 main pillars:

Pillar 1: The new Sustainable Development Goals: What next?

Convergences 2015 - Pillar 1In September 2015, the United Nations will adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and shape the Post-2015 Development Agenda. These new goals aim to mobilise all countries around the world towards a more sustainable and inclusive development. The 2015 World Forum, which will take place shortly before the adoption of the new SDGs during the New York Summit, will tackle the post-2015 agenda from three different angles:

– The Post-2015 Development Agenda: why and how should we adopt the new SDGs?
– What are th perspectives for creating multi-actor partnerships to support vulnerable populations?
– How to encourage sustainable growth and quality employment – an essential key to achieve the SDGs?

Pillar 2: Business models that accelerate social change

Convergences 2015 - Pillar 2Social entrepreneurs, solidarity actors, and increasingly public authorities, companies and investors have acknowledged the need for an alternative management of the economy. Many organisations seek to move beyond the traditional incompatibility between economic growth and social development. To do so, they are adopting comprehensive approaches. Companies are increasingly moving beyond a patronage mentality and placing social and environmental concerns at the heart of their business models. The actors of the 2015 World Forum will discuss and exchange their experiences of  responsible and inclusive business models and answer the following questions:

– Responsible business models: how to reconcile economic and social objectives?
– Inclusive and responsible finance: which models to maximise social impact?
– From ownership to use: the practices that challenge traditional business models in the North and the South

Pillar 3: The Action Agenda to address the climate change challenge

Convergences 2015 - Pillar 32015 will be a crucial year for taking action against climate change, of which the effects on our societies are already alarming. The COP21, which will take place in Paris from 30 November to 11 December, aims to secure the first universal binding agreement for all countries to limit global warming to less than 2°C. This agreement will also include an “agenda of solutions”: a set of multi-actor initiatives across sectors with high potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to accelerate the transition towards low carbon and resilient economies. The 2015 World Forum aims at contributing to preparing the COP21 by promoting the agenda of shared solutions as follows:

– From local actions to global impact: What is the role of local initiatives in the fight against climate change?
– Funding climate: What innovative mechanisms and what synergies with funding for development?
– Transforming intentions into actions: How to reach and mobilize citizens to respond to climate challenges
